A closer look at our next region: Liguria!

I don’t know about you all, but last week’s announcement about our Nonna Box-dedicated wine sommelier had me all kinds of excited — so excited, in fact, that I only briefly mentioned our monthly regional reveal.

Now it’s time to give Liguria some love, don’t you think? The crescent-shaped region, which cuddles up against the northwestern Italian coast, ranks among top Italian destinations in terms of sheer beauty (does Cinque Terre bring any wanderlusty visuals to mind?) and global fame for its gastronomy. And I’m so hungry to begin the introduction! So, without further ado, let me share a three of the six traditional products to be featured in this month’s Nonna Box.

First, there’s croxetti, an embossed and disc-shaped pasta once made by peasants, and served by and to aristocrats. Before you get cooking it, though, you’ll want to make a pasta-prep game plan: Either use Nonna Anna Maria’s recipe (which comes with your box), or create a different dish altogether by cracking open your box’s scrumptious, goes-with-almost-anything Ligurian walnut sauce. Finally, you can finish off your savory feast with one, some, or a whole bag of canestrelli, a melt-in-your-mouth cookie made by a business built on 200 years of family tradition.

There’s of course more Ligurian flavor seduction to be had (by way of three more products!), but that, my amici, will have to wait until next week.
